Online Therapy
Online therapy has become a new way of doing therapy and even though I have offered this service prior to the pandemic, it can be a useful tool for almost everyone. I would however discourage you to try, it if you happen to have suicidal thoughts, or if you suffer from psychosis, or acute psychiatric disorders.
I will explore this method during our first consultation, as preferences are often face-to-face.
How does online therapy work?
Online therapy works just like face-to-face therapy, but using different platforms such as Zoom, FaceTime or Skype. It’s indeed still possible to build a trusting therapeutic relationship between a therapist and a client.
You might wish to alternate between online and face-to-face sessions due to working away from home, or if you are unable to find a suitable therapist in your area. Whatever your needs, we can find a way together.
The setting is the same, with a weekly 60 minute session (unless agreed differently). The same confidentiality rules apply.
In order to use this method, you will first need to identify a comfortable place where you know you won’t be disturbed, that offers you privacy. All devices apart from the one you are using for the session need to be turned off, or on silent mode; turn off any notifications you may receive on the device you are actually using to avoid distractions. This is very important, so that you can be fully present in the session. Also check that you have enough light in the room and, if possible, use headphones to help reduce echo. Last but not least, please make sure to frame your head and upper body so that I can see you properly and position your device so that it can be still.
Once you’re set up, find a cosy seat and get something to drink ready for your session to begin.
